(Nasdaq: MYL) today announced that it has received a consent order from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market and sell a generic version of AstraZeneca's esomeprazole magnesium (Nexium, marketed under the brand name esomeprazole).

Esomeprazole magnesium is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems. It is indicated to reduce pain and to relieve symptoms of GERD, ulcers and other acid reflux. Nexium is indicated for the treatment of peptic ulcers in adults and children ages 6 months to 11 years, and for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in adults. In addition, Esomeprazole is indicated to reduce the symptoms of GERD, ulcers and other acid reflux.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Mylan's generic esomeprazole magnesium as the only oral formulation currently available in the United States. This generic formulation is indicated for the treatment of patients with symptomatic GERD, the symptoms of GERD, ulcers and other acid reflux, and for the treatment of patients with symptoms of GERD, the symptoms of ulcers and other acid reflux.
